PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team fell to Brown, 12-7, in Ivy League action at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Sunday afternoon.
Dartmouth moves to 2-5, 0-2 while Brown improves to 5-3, 2-0.
Lucy Murray and
Katina Christensen each scored two goals for the Big Green. Murray chipped in an assist as well.
Margaret Maruszewski,
Katie Elders, and
Jev Ward all scored one goal.
Maja Desmond had five ground balls while
Maggie O'Gorman and
Nieve Donegan both had three apiece. O'Gorman also had two caused turnovers.
Gisele Todd finished with 10 saves.
Mia Mascone led the Bears with a game-high five goals and two assists for seven points. Nathalie Ahn, Maggie Fowler, Leah Caputo each scored two goals. Erin Tucker finished with eight saves for Brown.
The Big Green jumped out to a 2-0 lead inside the opening six minutes when Ward and Murray both scored free position goals. The Bears answered less than a minute later when Fowler grabbed her first of the day. Elders pushed the Dartmouth lead back up to two at the 5:15 mark in the first quarter. Brown scored two goals before the end of the opening frame to tie the game at 3-3.
As they did in the first, Dartmouth scored the opening two goals of the second quarter. Christensen scored her first of the game and then Maruszewski scored a free position goal for her first collegiate goal. The Bears responded with two of their own to tie the game at 5-5. Christensen added her second of the frame to take the lead back before Brown scored with 24 seconds left until the half to again tie the game.
The Bears took control of the game in the third when they outscored the Big Green 3-0 to go up 9-6. Brown would add three more in the fourth before Murray scored a man-down goal with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
Dartmouth is on the road again as they take on defending national champion and second-ranked Boston College on Wednesday evening. The game will be available to stream on the ACC Network.
