HANOVER, N.H. — The Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) announced its 2022 All-Americans on Tuesday, and Dartmouth garnered four selections this season — two first-teamers and another two on the second team.
Earning First-Team All-America honors are sophomore
William Bender and junior
Jacob Hudgins. This is the second straight honor for Bender who was named an All-American last year as a freshman. Landing on the second team is freshman
Miles Hudgins — the younger brother of Jacob — along with fifth-year senior
Caleb Edmundson.
All four athletes rowed in the varsity boat that won the petite final at the IRA Championship in May.
In order to be considered for All-America honors, rowers must meet all institutional eligibility requirements, race in the current season's varsity boat and be nominated by the school by the head coach that is in good standing with the IRCA.
Determination of All-America honors is based on the strength of finish of the varsity boat, nomination rank of institution and coach's comments, individual achievements and erg score.
This season there are 102 rowers and coxswains to achieve All-America status, up from 73 rowers and coxswains named to the inaugural teams last year. These athletes represent 30 teams (25 heavyweight and eight lightweight with three from both ) out of the 54 member programs.
