HANOVER, N.H. — Last October, Dartmouth escaped Cambridge with a last-second victory as part of an undefeated season that ended with a NIRA championship victory over Harvard. On Saturday at Brophy Field, the Crimson returned the favor after scoring a late try and kicking the game-winning conversion in the final seconds, coming away with a 19-17 victory.
Despite a strong defensive effort that held the high-powered Harvard offense to a season-low 19 points, and two second-half tries by freshman
Cindy Taulava, Dartmouth suffered its first NIRA loss of the season, dropping to 3-2 overall. Harvard improved to 7-0 and sealed the Ivy Rugby Championship.
Dartmouth had a 17-12 edge following Taulava's second score at the 75:45 mark, but Harvard quickly erased that deficit with Neasa McLaughlin's try. With the pivotal NIRA showdown tied at 17-17, all eyes were on Harvard's Skyler Jordan, who knocked in the game-winning conversion in the final seconds.
In a low-scoring first half, Harvard struck first with Lennox London's try and Chloe Headland's conversion just over 10 minutes into the contest. The Big Green evened the score with senior
Abby Kayser's first try of the season and a good kick from
Abbey Savin midway through the opening half.
Four of the last five matches between Dartmouth and Harvard have been decided by less than five points, with the lone exception being the Big Green's 45-31 victory in the 2021 regular season.
Dartmouth finishes the regular season with two straight road matches, starting with a trip to Brown on Sunday, Oct. 29.
