HANOVER, N.H. – Katina Christensen,
Boo Dewitt, and
Catherine Erb combined for 10 goals as the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team defeated Bryant, 15-13, in non-conference action on Wednesday at Scully-Fahey Field. With the win, the Big Green improve to 2-1 on the season while Bryant is now 2-2.
The game was tied 11-11 going into the fourth quarter. The Big Green outscored the Bulldogs, 4-2, in the final frame. Christensen (2) and Dewitt (1) combined to score the first three goals of the quarter.
Joining Christensen, Dewitt, and Erb on the scoresheet was
Maja Desmond with two goals, and
Sophia Franco,
Rosie McCarthy, and
Lucy Murray each had one.
Samantha Bennett finished with a trio of assists while Murray chipped in two.
Julia Mastrio had three ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Big Green.
Kenna Kaut finished with four goals and one assist for the Bulldogs. Chamberlaine Bell had three goals and three assists while Emily Oliver scored twice and assisted another three.
The Big Green started off on the strong foot, scoring the first two goals of the game through Erb and Franco to take a 2-0 lead. Bryant answered with two goals in the span of 21 seconds to tie the game.
Dartmouth scored the next four goals, including two from Desmond, to take a 6-2 lead early in the second quarter. After the Bulldogs scored twice, the Big Green responded with another four goals to take a commanding 10-4 lead early in the second half.
Bryant started chipping away at the lead, scoring the next four goals to cut the Big Green advantage down to two. A goal from Christensen at the 4:42 mark of the third quarter stopped the Bryant scoring run, but the Bulldogs kept attacking and scored three straight goals, all from Kaut, to tie the game at 11-11 going into the fourth quarter.
Dartmouth regrouped during the short break and scored just 90 seconds into the final frame to regain the lead with Christensen completing the hat-trick. Dewitt added her hat-trick with under 10 minutes to go and Christensen added one more just moments later, giving the Big Green a 14-11 lead.
After Bryant scored twice to make it a one-goal game, McCarthy scored with 1:19 remaining to seal it for the Big Green as they controlled the ball for the remainder of the game to take the win.
Dartmouth opens Ivy League play on Sunday against Cornell. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be available to stream regionally on NESN+, nationally on ESPN+, and internationally on Stretch Internet.
