HANOVER, N.H. – Facing a 3-0 deficit after the first quarter, the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team outscored Brown, 16-6, over the final three quarters to pick up its first Ivy League victory of the season by a score of 16-9 on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. With the win, Dartmouth improves to 3-7, 1-2 for the season while Brown falls to 5-6, 2-2.
Katina Christensen finished with a game-high five points with three goals and two assists.
Maja Desmond and
Boo Dewitt both had four points for the Big Green. Desmond scored four goals while Dewitt scored twice and assisted two.
Catherine Erb finished with three goals, making it her fourth straight game with a hat-trick.
Lucy Murray also scored twice and
Jenna Donohue and
Rosie McCarthy each tallied one goal.
Gisele Todd made a season-high 15 saves to earn her second win of the win.
Mia Mascone scored three goals for the Bears. Maddie Joyce and Jackie Mason both scored twice while Mason also chipped in an assist.
The Bears came out on the strong foot, outscoring the Big Green 3-0 in the first quarter.
Dartmouth rebounded in the second quarter, scoring eight straight goals while allowing none for the quarter.
Christensen got things going early in the frame, scoring just 90 seconds in to cut into the deficit. Christensen added her second of the afternoon less than a minute later with the Big Green on a woman-up opportunity.
Desmond scored at the 9:48 mark of the quarter to tie the game after shifting her way past the Brown defender before firing home a shot.
The scoring run continued when Dewitt scored her first free-position goal of the afternoon at the 7:12 mark of the second quarter to put the Big Green ahead, 4-3.
Donohue tallied her fourth goal of the season minutes later to push the lead to two.
The Big Green added a pair of free-position goals, coming from Desmond and Dewitt, less than a minute before Erb scored with 14 seconds remaining in the quarter to give Dartmouth an 8-3 lead going into the half.
Brown scored early in the third quarter to stop the Dartmouth scoring run, but the Big Green responded with another run of five unanswered goals to push the lead to nine.
Desmond completed the hat-trick with a free-position goal at the 12:34 mark before adding her fourth of the game less than a minute later. Goals from Erb, Murray, and McCarthy over the next six minutes gave the Big Green a 13-4 lead.
After Brown scored with 2:28 remaining in the third, Murray scored her second goal of the afternoon to give Dartmouth a 14-5 lead going into the final quarter.
The Bears outscored the Big Green, 4-1, in the fourth quarter, but the Dartmouth lead proved to be too much as the Big Green won by a score of 16-9.
The Big Green held the edge in draw controls (18-12), ground balls (18-15), and shots on goal (25-24).
Dartmouth heads back out on the road on Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup at UMass Lowell. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
Notes: The eight goals scored by the Big Green in the second quarter are the most they have scored in a single quarter since tallying nine in the first quarter of a 23-9 victory over Columbia on April 9, 2022.
