HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth head women's rowing coach
John Graves announced on Monday the hiring of Carly Legenzowski as the Big Green's newest assistant coach. A three-time NCAA Champion coxswain at Texas (2021, 2022 and 2024), she most recently coxed the Texas varsity eight to a national title this past June.
Legenzowski was in Hanover this past summer, training for the Under-23 National Championships which featured Graves as a U.S. assistant coach. Legenzowski went on to help the Red, White and Blue win silver in the women's four. She joins Graves and
Kendall Brewer to make up the Big Green staff.
"We are thrilled about adding Carly's experience and expertise to our staff," said Graves. "As our team becomes more and more ambitious to bring this team back to NCAAs, I feel very fortunate to have a staff — between Kendall and Carly — who have excelled at that level and can help guide the way."
Legenzowski replaces
Merritt Denham, who moves onto a coaching opportunity at Syracuse University after more than three years on the Big Green staff.

"I want to thank Merritt for her all she has put into the program," said Graves. "She is leaving our program in a better place than she found it and that's the mark of a great coach."
Legenzowski was a four-time Big 12 Champion and a First Team All-American her senior year as the coxswain of the First Varsity 8. This past spring, Legenzowski led the Texas Longhorns to the program's third NCAA National Championship over the last four years, which included a victory in the varsity eight. Her boat finished with a time of 6:09.555, just ahead of second place Stanford.
"I am super excited to join the team," said Legenzowki. "I'm looking forward to working with John and Kendall. It seems like the team has been making some really big improvements, so I'm excited to help keep that going."
Strong in the classroom, Legenzowski was named a member of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. She was also a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and three-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete recipient.
While at Texas, Legenzowki was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), served as Texas Athletics Pre-Health Organization Vice President and The Women's Network Vice President of Events.
"I first met Carly in 2021 while training alongside the Texas women leading into their win at NCAAs that year," said Graves. "Being around that team was a formative experience for me and through my conversations with Carly, it was clear that our admiration and respect for [Texas head coach] Dave O Neil's coaching ethos was the common thread between us.
"I am certainly excited to have more of that influence on our team as we continue to build this program to its full potential."
