SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Maja Desmond and
Catherine Erb both scored four goals as the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-8 victory over San Diego State on Friday evening at the Aztec Lacrosse Field.
Katina Christensen led all scorers with six points after finishing with three goals and three assists.
Katie Elders also scored three goals while
Mia Puccio tallied two goals and one assist and
Fiona O'Keeffe had one goal and a trio of assists.
Lucy Murray also had a multi-point effort with one goal and one assist.
The Big Green combined for 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers while
Maya Kendall finished with a game-high 13 draw controls.
Gisele Todd and
Tamer Luzi combined to make eight saves in the contest as Todd picked up the win.
Dartmouth improves to 4-2 while San Diego State drops to 1-8.
After the teams traded goals in the early going, the Big Green responded with two straight and seven of the next eight to take control. The run was capped off by three straight goals from Erb — at 10:25, 8:49 and 8:22 of the second quarter — to give Dartmouth an 8-2 lead.
After San Diego State ended a 11:59 scoreless drought, Christensen scored her second of the game just 37 seconds later, sparking a 4-0 Big Green run. Erb's fourth of the first half gave the Big Green a 12-3 advantage, on the way to a 12-5 halftime lead.
Dartmouth continued the momentum into the second half, scoring the first four goals of the quarter and finishing with a 7-1 edge in the stanza. There were five different goal scorers in the quarter, with Puccio scoring her second with three seconds remaining for a 19-6 lead heading to the fourth.
Fiona O'Keeffe scored Dartmouth's fourth-quarter goal with 5:30 remaining to account for the 20-8 final.
Dartmouth continues its California trip on Monday afternoon, taking on USC at the Dignity Health Sports Park. Opening draw is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and the game will be available to stream on Pac-12 Live.
