CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Dartmouth women's lacrosse opened Ivy League play with an impressive 17-10 win over Harvard on Saturday in Cambridge.
The Crimson scored the first goal of the game just 34 seconds into the game but the Big Green responded at the 13:21 mark. Mia Puccio scored her fourth goal of the year to tie game at one.
Harvard scored the next three goals but the Big Green responded with three straight goals to tie game at four as the first quarter came to an end. Charlotte Myers and Fiona O'Keeffe each scored once while Samantha Bennett scored a pair of goals in the frame.
Bennett completed her hat-trick to open the second quarter to make it 5-4 Big Green.
Following Bennett's goal, the Big Green scored seven of the next eight goals to take an 11-5 lead into the locker room for halftime. Madeline Egan tallied a second quarter hat-trick while Kaitie Barr added a pair and Puccio found the back of the cage once.
After 30 minutes of play the Big Green outshot Havard 18-10 in shot attempts and 15-8 in shots on goal.
The third quarter saw just three goals with a F. O'Keeffe goal splitting up a pair of Harvard goals. The Big Green took a 12-7 lead to the fourth quarter.
Egan opened the quarter with back to back goals at the 9:54 and 8:25 marks of the fourth quarter. After a Harvard goal make it 14-10 Big Green, Etta Coburn scored at the 3:08 mark before Puccio completed her hat-trick with 1:55 left. Coburn put the game on ice with 34 seconds left as she made it 17-10 with her second of the game.
Ruby Lucken started in net for the Big Green and improved to 4-0 while making seven saves in the win. Jordan Healy played the final 4:22 for the Big Green.
The first-year duo of Egan and Barr combined for 11 points with Egan scoring five goals and adding an assist to lead the Big Green. Barr added a pair of goals along with three assists.
Myers scored once while adding three assists.
Caroline Kendall caused two turnovers while picking up two groundballs in the win. The Big Green were credited with eight caused turnovers in the game.
It is the first time that Dartmouth has defeated Harvard since Mar. 30, 2019, and the first time they have won in Cambridge since the 2018 season.
The Big Green return to Scully-Fahey Field on Monday, Mar. 2 at 3 PM as Holy Cross travels to Hanover for a non-conference game.
