HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth women's lacrosse improved to 5-0 on Monday with a 16-8 win over Holy Cross at Scully-Fahey Field.
The Big Green came out firing as they scored the first five goals of the game to take a 5-0 lead at the 10:05 mark. Mia Puccio opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the game. Lauren Riley and Kate Barr then scored just over a minute apart to give Dartmouth a 3-0 lead. Charlotte Myers scored back to back goals at the 12:16 and 10:05 marks.
Holy Cross got on the board at the 6:51 mark but the Big Green responded with three straight goals. Catherine Erb scored a pair while Madeline Egan added a goal.
With 32 seconds left in the first quarter, the Crusaders made it 8-2.
There were just four goals in the second quarter as the Big Green scored three of them. Myers scored at the 14:24 mark before Samantha Bennett scored the 10th Dartmouth goal at the 13:14 mark.
Holy Cross slowed down the Big Green as neither team scored again until the 5:04 mark as Holy Cross made it 10-3. Less than a minute later, the Big Green took the eight-goal lead back as Riley made it 11-3. With 52 seconds left in the half, Egan scored to make it 12-3.
At halftime, the Big Green led 12-3 while outshooting Holy Cross 17-5 in shots on goal.
Dartmouth opened the third quarter with goals from Ryan Hapgood and Katie Barr to make it an 11-goal lead.
Holy Cross scored the final three goals of the quarter to make it 14-6 heading to the fourth quarter.
Puccio opened the fourth with second goal of the game to make it a 15-6 lead.
Holy Cross scored at the 11:02 an 9:12 marks but could not mount a comeback.
Myers scored her fourth goal at the 8:38 mark to secure the win for Dartmouth.
Ruby Lucken made four saves in the win while Dartmouth outshot Holy Cross 24-12.
Maya Kendall was nearly perfect on draws as she notched 20 draw controls. She currently has 376 in her career and is chasing the Dartmouth and Ivy League record of 418.
Egan led Dartmouth with eight points on two goals and six assists while Myers had four goals and two assists.
The Big Green had nine caused turnovers with Caroline Haggery leading the way with three. Ellie Burdick collected four groundballs in the contest to lead the Big Green.
Dartmouth is 5-0 to start a season for the first time since the 2020 season which was eventually cancelled due to COVID-19.
The Green and White are back on the field on Saturday, Mar. 7 at Noon as Penn travels to Scully-Fahey Field.
