HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth fell to No. 25 Penn with a final score of 14-10 at Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday. The Big Green move to 5-1 and 1-1 in Ivy League play.
The game opened with Dartmouth's Mia Puccio securing the initial draw control. Madeline Egan scored the first goal for Dartmouth at 11:32, giving them an early lead. Penn quickly responded with two goals from free position opportunities to take a 2-1 advantage. Dartmouth answered with goals from Katie Barr, assisted by Egan, and Samantha Bennett, regaining the lead at 3-2. Penn tied the game at three before the end of the first quarter at the 6:20 mark.
Penn capitalized on an early turnover by Dartmouth and took the lead at the 12:43 mark in the second quarter. The Quakers scored the only goals of the quarter and took a 6-3 lead to the locker room.
Penn struck first in the third to extend its lead to 7-3. Dartmouth responded at 8:43 when Fiona O'Keeffe found the net, narrowing the gap. Penn answered right back to make it 8-4 at 6:51, but Dartmouth rallied with a person-up goal from Egan at 2:32. Dartmouth continued their momentum with Mia Puccio scoring at 1:35, assisted by Charlotte Myers, and Myers herself scoring with 1:07 left, assisted by Etta Coburn. The teams went to the fourth quarter with Penn leading 8-7.
The Quakers extended their lead early in the fourth quarter as they scored the first four goals of the frame to take a 12-7 lead. Egan scored at 4:12, and Fiona O'Keeffe converted a free position shot at 2:37 to reduce the deficit. Despite the comeback attempt, Penn scored with 17 seconds left before Lauren Riley scored with two seconds left to make it 14-10.
Egan led the offense with three goals and two assists, converting six of her eight shots on goal. F. O'Keeffe contributed two goals, including one from a free position shot, while maintaining a perfect shot accuracy. Myers added to the scoring with one goal and one assist.
Maya Kendall collected eight draw controls while Puccio pulled in four.
Dartmouth caused six turnovers with Kathryn Norton having a team best two, Ellie Burdick, Barr, Hope Hapgood, and Puccio each had one.
Dartmouth will face UMass on Tuesday, March 10, at Scully-Fahey Field, the game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
