Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse Falls at Yale, 10-8
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) scored four goals for the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team, but the No. 8 Big Green fell to No. 17 Yale, 10-8, Saturday afternoon.
Senior Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) gave Dartmouth (3-3 overall, 0-1 Ivy) an 8-7 lead with 9:06 left in the second half.
But Yale's Lauren Taylor tied the game less than a minute later and then scored what proved to be the gamewinner for a 9-8 Bulldog lead with 6:24 remaining. Marya Myers gave Yale an insurance marker at 5:01.
Barry scored three of her goals in the opening half as the game was tied 4-4 at the break. After Yale opened the game with a 2-0 lead, Barry and senior Margo Duke (Englewood, Colo.) gave Dartmouth a 4-2 lead at 9:06 before the Bulldogs answered.
Szefi, senior Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) and Barry scored three straight the first 10 minutes of the second half for a 7-4 Big Green lead. But Yale scored a trio of its own to make it 7-7 at 11:18.
Although Dartmouth has a 12-4 record against Yale since 1992, the Bulldogs have been a thorn in the Big Green's side the last two games, winning 6-5 last year in Hanover before today's victory at New Haven.
For Dartmouth, senior Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) was held scoreless for the first time this season, but still contributed two assists. Freshman goaltender Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) made eight saves.
The Big Green is back in action on Sunday, March 25, traveling to Columbia for a 2 p.m. Ivy League matchup.
