Boxscore
AMHERST, Mass. - Senior Margo Duke (Englewood, Colo.) scored the first two goals of the game and junior Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) added three as the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team took an 11-5 decision from the University of Massachusetts Wednesday.
Duke potted an unassisted goal with 7:32 gone and then made it 2-0 on the free position shot about 15 minutes later as Dartmouth went into the break with a 5-1 lead.
The Big Green had a 9-1 lead with 19:39 left in the second half when Barry scored her second of the game with an assist from senior Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.).
Senior Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a four-point afternoon with two goals and two assists, and Douthett's goal at the start of the second half proved to be the gamewinner for the Big Green.
Douthett (one goal, two assists), Duke (two goals, one assist) and sophomore Katherine Chiusano (Medford, N.J.) with one goal and two assists joined Barry with three points. Dartmouth's attack was rounded out by senior Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) who scored back-to-back goals in the second half.
"I thought our defense played really well today," said head coach Amy Patton. "Our turnovers were the result of sloppy play," she added, as Dartmouth had 20 on the afternoon compared to UMass with 13.
"We're looking forward to the break after exams and getting ready for Maryland," Patton said.
In goal, freshman Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) earned her third straight start and had four saves.
The Big Green remains spotless on the season with a 3-0 record and hosts the Terrapins on Saturday, March 17, in a 2:30 start at Scully-Fahey Field.
