THIS WEEKEND
Three-time Ivy champion Dartmouth will open the fall on Sunday with a morning road match against Notre Dame College. The game is being broadcast and can be watched for free.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME COLLEGE
In their second season of NCAA compliance and their first full NIRA schedule, the Falcons will also be opening their campaign on Sunday. Last year, NDC went 3-6, playing tough opponents such as Life, American International, Norwich and Lindenwood, while picking up quality wins over Mount St. Mary's, Queens and Pitt. The Falcons have an even tougher schedule in 2018, taking on Quinnipiac, Harvard and Army.
2018 SCHEDULE
After leaving Ohio, the Big Green will travel to Connecticut to face Quinnipiac. After that, the Green will be at home for the next three games against Brown, Harvard and AIC. The match against the Crimson will coincide with the team's 40th reunion weekend. Dartmouth will close the regular season at Army West Point the following weekend. On Oct. 27, the Big Green will be looking for its fourth consecutive Ivy title, while that will be followed by the NIRA Championship (Nov. 10-18).
LAST SEASON IN REVIEW
2017 was a great year for Dartmouth, which went 8-1. The Green started the season off on a high note by taking down defending national champion and No. 1-seeded Quinnipiac and the hot streak continued from there. Dartmouth won its third Ivy Championship title with a 22-8 victory over Harvard and went on to defeat AIC and Harvard in the NIRA quarterfinal and semifinal to remain undefeated. Dartmouth narrowly fell to Quinnipiac in the final.
CAPTAIN
Senior Camille Johnson will serve as captain during her final year at Dartmouth. As a junior in 2017, she had 12 points from two tries and one conversion. Her first two points of the season came in the 45-7 victory over Army and she had a try in both wins over Harvard.
CLASS OF 2022
Six members of the Class of 2022 were added to the roster. Joining the Big Green this season are Ale Ada, Sophia Haley, Emily Henrich, Sophie Ragg, Ariana Ramsey and Seven Sassano.
COACHING STAFF
Katie Dowty is entering her fourth year at the helm of the Big Green team. Since becoming the program's first varsity head coach in 2015, she has led Dartmouth to three consecutive Ivy titles and has helped the Green improve on their finish at the NIRA Championship each year. She is assisted by Stacey Bridges, who joined the staff prior to the start of the 2016 season.
THREE KEYS TO SUCCESS BY COACH DOWTY
Go Forward – "It's a new year and new combinations. There is never a perfect rugby game, and early in the season, we can expect to be getting comfortable with each other. We are looking to keep it simple, play some hard-nosed rugby and keep driving toward the tryline without fear of 'mistakes'."
Communication – "As the team gels throughout the beginning of the season, constant chatter will be key to playing off each other and making collective decisions on the field."
Have Fun! – "We play our best rugby when we are having fun. With this group, competing their hardest and having fun clearly go hand in hand – that has been obvious at training. Teams that delight in the battle are tough to beat. Playing with that mindset and leaving everything on the field is the definition of the success we are after this season."
