ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team erased a late three-goal deficit, but eventually fell on the road at Michigan, 11-10, in double overtime of the first ever game between the programs.

Senior
Kellen D'Alleva capped the Big Green (0-2) comeback by scoring a free-position goal with 27 seconds left in regulation to force the teams to the extra frame. However, after a scoreless first OT period, Molly Garrett gave the Wolverines (4-0) the win thanks to her marker just 48 seconds into the second sudden-victory session.
Â
"That was a tough game, but we will grow from it," head coach
Danielle Spencer said. "We have to stay optimistic. I believe in our team."
Â
Down 10-7 at the midway point of the second half, the visiting Green and White began to chip away at the Michigan lead.
Campbell Brewer scored with 8:43 left to make it a two-goal game.
Â
It would stay that way until
Katie Bourque scored her team-leading third of the game with 1:47 remaining on a free-position shot, setting up for the late-game push that led to D'Alleva's tying marker, her second tally of the afternoon.
Â
In a game delayed an hour due to ice on the field and played with snow flurries throughout, neither Dartmouth, nor Michigan allowed the other to get too far ahead with that three-goal lead being the biggest of the game following a 4-0 run by the Wolverines early in the second half.
Â
In addition to Bourque and D'Alleva,
Kathryn Giroux and
Kierra Sweeney also scored multiple times as each notched a pair.
Campbell Brewer had the other goal for the Big Green.
Â
Caitlin Muir led all players with four points as she scored once and dished out three assists for the home team. Lilly Grass, Nadine Stewart and Adriana Pendino all scored twice for the Wolverines, while five players had a single goal.
Â
For the second straight game, it was the opposition's goalkeeper that frustrated the Dartmouth attack with 16 saves. This time, it was Michigan's Mira Shane stopping 16 to earn the win.
Kiera Vrindten stopped nine for the Big Green in her nearly 67 minutes of action.
Â
Dartmouth is back in action next Sunday in Vestal, New York, taking on Binghamton at 1 p.m. The 2019 home opener is Tuesday, Feb. 26 against No. 1 Boston College at 3 p.m. on Scully Fahey Field.
