FIRST ROAD TRIP
The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team takes its first road trip of the season when they head down I-91 South to take on the 22-ranked UMass Minutewomen.
STARTING OFF WITH A WIN
The Big Green opened the 2023 season this past weekend with a 13-12 victory over in-state rival New Hampshire at Scully-Fahey Field.
Samantha Bennett and
Boo Dewitt both finished with a team-high four points. Bennett scored three goals and had one assist while Dewitt scored two and assisted two.
Katina Christensen also scored a hat-trick and
Catherine Erb scored twice, including the game-winner with just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Big Green combined to have 18 draw controls, led by
Margaret Maruszewski who finished with five.
Isabella Godsick had four while
Maja Desmond had three. Dartmouth had six caused turnovers in the contest. Desmond led with two while
Rosie McCarthy,
Nina Nesselbush,
Meriwether Florence, and
Reed Cole each had one.
Gisele Todd earned the victory on Saturday, finishing with 10 saves and three ground balls.
SCOUTING UMASS
UMass enters Saturday's contest with a 2-1 record. The Minutewomen are ranked 22
nd in the latest IWLCA poll and are coming off a 14-5 win over Siena on Wednesday.
Kylee Bowen leads UMass in goals with nine through the opening three games. Kassidy Morris has six goals while Alex Finn and Charlotte Wilmoth are tied for third with five. Fiona McGowan has a team-high five assists. Amy Moreau, Lauren Tolve, and Finn each have two assists.
Layton Nass has nine caused turnovers and Jordan Dean has 17 draw controls. Moreau leads the team in ground balls with eight.
Gina Carroll has started all three games in goal whole Catrina Tobin has appeared in all three. Carroll currently has a 1-1 record while Tobin is 1-0. They have combined to make 23 saves.
The Minutewomen are the defending Atlantic 10 regular season champions after going a perfect 9-0 in conference play during the 2022 season.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE MINUTEWOMEN
The Big Green are 23-10 all-time against the Minutewomen with an 11-6 record on the road. The two teams met on Scully-Fahey Field last season, which saw UMass take the win, 13-9.
Dartmouth last visited UMass during the 2020 season. The Big Green won that matchup, 15-11.
