HANOVER, N.H. – Siena scored 1:24 into overtime to take the win, 14-13, over the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green move to 2-3 for the season while Siena improves to 5-4.
Boo Dewitt finished with four goals and two assists for six points for the Big Green.
Katina Christensen scored a hat-trick while
Maja Desmond,
Rosie McCarthy,
Lucy Murray,
Catherine Erb,
Sophia Franco, and
Jenna Donohue each had one. Franco added two assists to finish the afternoon with three points.
Gisele Todd and
Tamer Luzi combined to make 14 saves in goal for Dartmouth.
Grace Dobrzynski, Mary Soures, and Rebecca Gilhooley each finished with three goals for the Saints. Kelly Logue and Amanda Nieman both scored twice. Dobrzynski and Logue also finished with three assists apiece. Sabrina Krasner made nine saves to earn the win.
It was an eventful first half which saw four lead changes. The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening few minutes. The Big Green stormed back with two goals in a 90 second span to take a 2-1 lead through goals from Murray and Erb.
Siena then responded with a pair of goals to take a 3-2 lead, before Dartmouth rattled off three in a row, including two from Dewitt, to go ahead 5-3.
The Saints scored two of the next three goals heading into halftime, with the Big Green holding a 6-5 lead. The third quarter started off well for Dartmouth as Dewitt and Donohue added tallies to give them an 8-6 lead with 9:42 remaining in the quarter.
Siena scored five straight goals to end the third quarter, going from a two-goal deficit to a three-goal lead, 11-8, heading into the final frame of regulation.
Franco got things going for Dartmouth in the fourth, scoring less than a minute into the quarter to start chipping away at the lead. After Christensen scored at the 10:40 mark to cut the deficit to one, Desmond scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later to tie the game once again.
Siena took back the lead with two more goals, but the Big Green responded once again. Christensen scored with a solo effort with 5:37 remaining followed by an unassisted goal from Dewitt 1:20 later to tie the game, 13-13.
Dartmouth had a woman-up advantage late in regulation after Siena's Meghan Decker received a yellow card, but the Big Green were unable to take the lead, sending the game to overtime. The Saints scored 1:24 into the extra frame to claim the win.
Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday afternoon with the first of three straight games on the road. The Big Green make the trip to the nation's capital for a non-conference tilt with Georgetown. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on FloSports.
Notes: The last time the Big Green went to overtime was on February 29, 2020. Dartmouth claimed a 12-11 victory at Brown in its lone Ivy League game of the shortened 2020 season.
