NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team scored 16 goals for the third consecutive game as they defeated Columbia, 16-8, in Ivy League action on Saturday afternoon at the Robert K Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wein Stadium. With the win, Dartmouth improves to 5-7, 2-3 on the season and extends the winning streak to three. Columbia drops to 3-10, 0-5.
Catherine Erb led the way for the Big Green, finishing with a career-high five goals.
Katie Elders talled four goals.
Samantha Bennett and
Lucy Murray both finished with four points as Bennett had two goals and two assists while Murray scored once and assisted on three.
Jenna Donohue claimed a game-high eight draw controls and finished with a team-high two caused turnovers.
Annalisa Massaro finished with three points for the Lions after scoring two goals and assisting one. Gianna Danese and Dani Falcone both scored twice. Ella Sangree made 11 saves in goal.
Elders opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead. It wasn't until midway through the quarter when Columbia got on the board through Falcone to tie the game.
Katina Christensen scored her first of the afternoon less than a minute later to put Dartmouth back ahead. The Lions scored two goals 1:31 apart to take their first, and only, lead of the game, 3-2.
With 3:28 remaining in the first quarter, Erb scored the goal that sparked an 8-0 scoring run over the next 7:17 to put the Big Green in front, 10-3. Erb tallied her second goal under a minute later, before Bennett, Murray, and Christensen all scored in the final 1:31 of the frame to take a 7-3 lead into the second quarter.
Elders once again scored the first goal of the quarter, followed by goals from
Maja Desmond and Erb to give Dartmouth a seven-goal lead. A goal from Columbia's Cecelia Messner stopped the Big Green scoring run, but Elders responded a few minutes later for her first hat-trick of the season.
Taking an 11-5 lead into the second half, the Big Green outscored the Lions, 3-2, in the third quarter with goals from Bennett, Erb, and
Isabella Godsick.
Columbia scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter, and Dartmouth finished off the game with goals from Erb and Elders just 14 seconds apart in the final few minutes of the contest.
The Big Green held the edge in draw controls (21-6), ground balls (13-9), and shots on goal (27-12).
Dartmouth closes out its three-game stretch on Tuesday evening with a non-conference matchup against twin-state rival Vermont. Opening draw is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
