Michelle Shortsleeve started the first three games last spring before being lost for the season due to a knee injury that required ACL surgery. She had five ground balls against New Hampshire and three against Syracuse. Off the field, Shortsleeve was one of 352 student-athletes chosen to participate in the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference last spring at Disney's Yacht Beach Club Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. As a freshman, Michelle stepped into a starting role in seven games and came off the bench in 11 others. She is a steady defender who doesn’t make many mistakes. An extremely confident player bringing the ball out of the defensive end, Michelle’s speed and smart play frustrate opponent midfielders. Twice captain of the lacrosse team and a four-year letterwinner, she also played ice hockey, soccer and ran cross country. She was a member of the BB&N squad that won the 1998 national ice hockey championship. A three-time All-League honoree in lacrosse, she was also a New England Prep All-Star.
Michelle is majoring in history.
WHAT THE COACHES ARE SAYING ABOUT MICHELLE
“After missing most of last season due to her injury, Michelle should be our defensive anchor this season. She has excellent speed and is very good communicator who has a solid understanding of the game."
MICHELLE SHORTSLEEVE STICK CHECK
My favorite food is: Fresh bread from Collis.
My favorite quote is: "You are only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." -- Robin Williams.
When I grow up: My wildest dream is to start a charter school.
My most memorable lacrosse experience was: When Leah Skypeck, after we had one Ivy game (on our way to the eventual championship and Final Four appearance) told the team that, no matter what happened next, she was "fulfilled" by the way we work hard and had fun together. I knew that that was the mentality I wanted to bring into my senior year, and the rest would follow."
What I like most about the coaching staff: I respect this coaching staff immensely for two reasons: They are willing to change and they are consistent. When Amy, Sarah and Christine get feedback they really listen and then find an innovative way to improve the situation. It is impressive. They are also very consistent with how they deal with each player individually and each player within the group. We are lucky to have such a professional staff.
