Consistency was Sarah Szefi's calling card on her way to earning All-Ivy League honorable mention. While finishing third on the team with 34 goals, she scored at least once in each of the Big Green's first 15 games and had a goal in 18 of 20 games overall. She had two goals and one assist in the national semifinal against Notre Dame and tallied the Big Green's final marker in the title contest with Northwestern. She poured in four goals against both Maryland and Massachusetts and had three against Syracuse. She finished tied for fourth on the squad with 43 points and fifth in assists with nine. As a sophomore she had 20 goals and nine assists, fourth best on the Big Green team. She started all but one game, and at season’s end, earned two Dartmouth team honors — most improved and the Radasch Award for coachability, dedication and unselfishness. In the 2005 NCAA quarterfinal victory over Georgetown, Szefi was an important cog, contributing three goals and five ground balls. One of the most accurate feeders and articulate shooters on the team, Sarah is extremely calm under pressure. Team MVP in both field hockey and lacrosse, she captained both teams in high school, and helped the lacrosse team to the WPSLA championships in 2002 and 2003 with a combined record of 31-9. An All-America on the lacrosse field, she was voted a league All-Star in both sports.
Sarah is majoring in economics.
WHAT THE COACHES SAY ABOUT SARAH: “Sarah will be the quarterback of the attack this year. She's a smart, steady player with excellent stick skills and composure. Look for her to control the tempo of the Big Green attack.”
