NEW YORK – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team put together one of its best single-game efforts in program history Friday afternoon in a 21-2 triumph at Columbia.
Â
The 19-goal win was the largest margin of victory ever for the Big Green in an Ivy League contest in nearly four decades of play and one of the largest ever for any of the Ancient Eight teams in a conference game.
Â
With the win, Dartmouth improved to 2-0 in Ivy play and 4-3 overall this season. The Lions move to 0-3 in conference games and 3-7 overall.
Â
"Tonight was a great team win in front of so many Big Green fans and alumni local to NYC," head coach
Danielle Spencer said. "It is exciting to see so many contributors in our offense, and I thought both of our goalkeepers who shared time in the cage,
Katie Forman and
Becca Wade, played great"
Â
Campbell Brewer had a career day with six goals, while
Kellen D'Alleva led the way with seven points on six assists. D'Alleva now has 21 points in her last three games thanks to five goals and 16 assists. Brewer has at least three goals in four games this season with 12 in those last three outings, all wins.
Â
In total, five Dartmouth players had five or more points in the win.
Katie Bourque scored four goals and had one assist,
Ellie Carson notched a pair and dished out three helpers, while
Kierra Sweeney scored three and had a trio of helpers.
Â
Kathryn Giroux had 15 draw controls, moving back into first place all-time in the Ivy League with 316 for her career. The 15 draws are the most ever in an Ivy League regular season game in conference history, breaking her own record of 13 set against Cornell on April 15, 2017. Her 16 against Penn in last year's league semifinals are still the most in a game played between two Ivy opponents.
Â
Forman, a sophomore, earned her first career victory in her first start, making a pair of saves in the opening half. Wade, a freshman, came in for the second frame and made three stops as both allowed just one goal in their respective halves of play.
Â
Elizabeth Mastrio had a two-goal, four-point day, but was seemingly and inexplicably overshadowed by her teammates who amassed a sea of points in the win.
Sophia Turchetta came off the bench and notched two of her own, while Giroux scored one in addition to her record-setting performance in the midfield.
Â
The possession clock was heavily in favor of the team in green as they held a 20-4 edge in draws and a 21-14 advantage in ground balls. Dartmouth attempted 43 shots in total with 29 coming in the first half with clock stoppages that never came in the second thanks to the 10-plus goal margin.
Â
Alexandria Absey scored both of the Lions' goals in the game, but they made the scores 7-1 and 15-2 at the time of both, hardly impacting the game.
Â
Dartmouth returns home to play Hofstra Tuesday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field with the opening draw set for 3 p.m.
