Sophomore (2015-16): Was coxswain of the varsity 4 that won against Northeastern, BU and UMass (7:37.4) … at the Eastern Sprints Regatta, she coxed the varsity 4 that took fourth in the Grand Final (7:58.03) … was coxswain of the varsity 4A that won the Petite Final at the Ivy League Championship (7:40.43).
Freshman (2014-15): At the Eastern Sprints Regatta, she coxed the third varsity 8 that came in second in the Grand Final (7:01.48) … was cox in the third varsity 8 that placed seventh in the Grand Final at the Ivy League Championship (6:59.728).
Before Dartmouth: Attended Acton-Boxborough High School and St. Paul’s School, where she was part of the Dance Company … First Testimonials with Honors … won the Charles Halsey Clark Award.
Personal: Wendy Huang is the daughter of Yingxing Sheng and Changiin Huang … brother, Bob, attended Dartmouth … plans to study computer science or economics … worked on Chinese Idol for a summer.
Q & A with Wendy Huang
Why Dartmouth?
Coming from high school, I hoped to find a school where everyone wanted and loved to be there—and I found this at Dartmouth!
How long have your been rowing and what interested you about rowing?
I actually just walked-on to the team my freshman fall. My high school had an established rowing program and I had always heard about coxing, but it wasn’t until I came to Dartmouth that I got a chance to experience it myself. So far, I’ve really liked it and I love being a part of the team.
What is something about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates?
I lived in China with my grandmother until I was five.
What extracurricular activités are you involved in on campus?
Outside of rowing, I’m involved in the student run dance group Sugarplum. I also hope to explore and join other organizations as I spend more time on campus.
What are you future plans, if any?
I’m honestly not sure yet, I’m taking a whole mixture of economics and computer science courses so we’ll see where that takes me!
