Why Dartmouth?-I actually had NO idea I was going to row when I came to Dartmouth, but I liked the size of the school, knew it had a good figure skating team (I figure skated competitively before coming to Dartmouth), and really liked the students I had met there--everyone was really down to earth and always looking to make the most of any opportunity that presented itself. I like that Dartmouth students know how to have a great time, but they also know how to work hard and commit themselves in order to accomplish amazing feats.
How long have you been rowing and what got you interested in rowing?-I have been rowing for 3 years now (this will be my fourth year). Coming into Dartmouth, I was looking to change sports and actually almost tried out for the cross country team! I had been somewhat interested in rowing, though, and the novice coach at the time came up to me in the computer line and said I should give it a try... the rest is history!
Have you won any academic or rowing awards recently?-2009 CRCA Scholar Athlete, 2009-2010 captain
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.-I love swimming in the ocean but am always secretly terrified that a shark is going to suddenly show up and eat me.
What are your future plans, if any?-My hope is to find a job in environmental consulting or corporate sustainability after graduation next year--I have actually just begun the job search process. I would like to work for a couple years and then go to graduate school for a joint law/business degree in Environmental Economics, Policy, and Law. I have also recently begun racing in triathlons and would love to pursue that event more seriously after graduation.
