Women's Rowing Falls to No. 20 Cornell in Race for Parent's Cup

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's rowing team raced No. 20 Cornell for the Parent's Cup on the Cayuga Lake Inlet on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Big Red were awarded the cup, which goes to the winner of the Varsity 8 event.

The Parent's Cup was created in 2000 in recognition of Cornell's parents and their support of the program. Dartmouth has won the cup nine times since 1998, but had a five-year winning streak cut short during the 2011 season. Since that time, the Big Red have won three of four Parent's Cup, with the Big Green halting a three-race win streak at last year's event.

To open the morning, Cornell took the Varsity 4 with a time of 7:39.8, leaving a 10-second gap between it and Dartmouth, which logged a 7:50.9. In the race that determined the winner of the event, the Varsity 8 race, the Big Red took first in 6:44.7, leaving the Green to finish second with a 6:58.7.

Dartmouth picked up a win in the second Varsity 8 race, rowing a 7:08.3 to Cornell's 7:12.9. The Green clocked a 7:41.1 in the third Varsity 8 event, finishing just over 10 seconds behind the Big Red with their time of 7:30.9. To wrap up the day, the visitors won the Varsity 4 B race in 8:07.8, finishing ahead of Cornell's B boat in 8:11.3 and its C crew with an 8:33.6.

The Big Green will travel to New Jersey for the EARC Sprints Regatta, which will commence on Sunday at 8:10 a.m.
