Eastern Sprints Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass. – After hosting its lone home race of the season the day before, the Dartmouth women's rowing team headed south for the 2016 Eastern Sprints Regatta on a rainy Sunday. The Big Green advanced all five of their boats to the Grand Final.
“All the crews raced well,” head coach Linda Muri said. “The experience they gained over the weekend, starting with the race against Cornell and the great teams at the Sprints today, is invaluable. Racing helps the team make the most progress in the shortest amount of time. And the chance to race again while the previous race is still fresh in your legs really makes a difference. I'm proud of how hard the women raced this weekend and look forward to the Ivy Championship in two weeks.
In the first event of the day, the third varsity, the top three boats advanced to the Grand Final and the bottom three made it to the Petite Final. Dartmouth placed third (7:33.216), leaving 2.5 seconds between it and Drexel in fourth (7:35.736). The Green placed sixth in the Grand Final (7:54.061), finishing less than seven seconds behind Radcliffe in fifth (7:47.988).
Racing in the third heat of the varsity 8, Dartmouth came first out of four boats (7:01.205), finishing over two seconds ahead of Boston College (7:03.254). Later that day, the Big Green earned bronze in its second race of the day (7:18.790), completing the course four second ahead of Columbia.
It was a similar story in the second varsity, during which Dartmouth placed first (7:09.583) in its first go-through of the day and out-finished BC by just four-tenths of a second (7:09.939). In the Grand Final, the Green were third (7:22.227), beating Columbia by a second and a half.
In the second heat of the varsity 4A, Dartmouth was second (7:54.860), finishing less than five seconds behind Bucknell in first (7:49.918) and 10 seconds ahead of Columbia (8:04.744). The Big Green went on to take fourth in the Grand Final (7:58.031), finishing just 12 seconds out of Radcliffe in first and leaving over 16 seconds between it and BC (8:14.788).
In the varsity 4B, they were third (8:28.943), beating Boston University by over 15 seconds (8:45.463). Later that day, Dartmouth placed fifth in the Grand Final (8:50.360). In the varsity 4C Grand Final, the Big Green came third (9:06.257), finishing behind Northeastern (8:43.300) and BC (8:27.278).
Next up for Dartmouth will be the Ivy League Championship, which will take place in Mercer County Park, New Jersey, on Sunday, May 15.
