Dartmouth women's rowing is looking to improve on its seventh-place finish from last year as it prepares for the 2016 Ivy League Women's Rowing Championship on Sunday. The event, which will begin at 6 a.m., will take place on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey. It was originally scheduled to be raced on Mercer Lake, but the location was changed due to projected extreme winds.

The Ivy League champion is determined by the fastest boat in the first varsity eight grand final. The winning varsity eight boat earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, giving the team's varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four boats automatic entry as well. The NCAA provides for 11 automatic qualifiers and 11 at-large bids.

At last year's championship, Dartmouth had a pair of boats advance to the Grand Finals and three make it to the Petite Finals, tying for seventh with Columbia. Brown won both the points trophy and the league title.

At the end of the day, two awards will be given out: one to the Ivy League champion for winning the varsity eight event and the other to the team with the most points. The league determines the winner of the trophy through a points system that weighs each of the day's races.

Heats begin at 6 a.m. and finals will follow at 8 a.m. Dartmouth will kick off the championship in heat 2 of the varsity eight.
