Q&A with Sarah Perez
Why Dartmouth?
From the moment I set foot on campus, I knew that there was no other place that I would rather spend four years. There was something special about Dartmouth that seemed to be lacking everywhere else. Being from Miami, Florida, I loved the mountains, the overall change of scenery, and the abundance of opportunities to get outdoors. While it’s easy to take for granted, I still think that this is one of the most beautiful places on earth! I also really appreciated the down-to-earth nature of Dartmouth students. Everyone was welcoming, and I felt very much at home.
How long have you been rowing and what interested you about rowing?
I walked on to the team my sophomore fall. I’ve always played a sport, but eye-hand coordination has never been my strong suit. After playing volleyball throughout high school, I knew that I wanted to try something different. My dad rowed throughout grade school, high school and college, and encouraged me to give it a try. I’ve really enjoyed rowing because no other sport that I’ve participated in is more rewarding of hard work.
What is something about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates?
I’m fluent in Spanish! My family is of Cuban descent and it was my first language growing up.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus?
I write for The Dartmouth, compete for Mock Trial Society, and work the Circulation desk at the library. I’m also a member of Kappa Delta sorority.
What are your future plans, if any?
While I’m not sure where my Government/History major will take me, I’m interested in politics and international relations. For right now, I’m just trying to soak up all that Dartmouth has to offer. While my other plans may not be set in stone, I know that I want to continue rowing in the future!
