Men's Lightweight Rowing
at Cornell
Q and A with James
Why Dartmouth?
The outdoors, the campus feel and the strength of the academics (and rowing retrospectively).
How long have you been rowing and what got you interested in rowing?
Some time during high school, a friend of mine suggested that I would like
Lightweight rowing. Since then, I suffered an injury precluding my participation in running sports, so I took his off-hand comment seriously and joined the squad. This is my fourth year.
Have you won any academic or rowing awards recently?
I received an award for my performance as a novice oarsman freshmen year. Coincidentally, that was the same year I won the Latin scholar award.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
I can't think of any one thing but I've eaten kangaroo, had a tarantula crawl on my face, scuba dived/dove with reef sharks, seen two concentric
rainbows, and been to the source of the Nile.
What other activities do you participate in on campus?
I attend classes and volunteer for various community organizations including Students Fighting Hunger and Therapeutic Riding.
What are your future plans, if any.
I am spending 6 months in Mali working for a Malaria Research Center before heading off to medical school, should that be in the cards. I am applying
this June/July. If I get the chance, I'd like to do a bike tour in the U.S.
