Men's Lightweight Rowing
at Cornell
Q and A with John
Why Dartmouth?
It's the best undergraduate college in the world and is perfectly situated in the great outdoors. There's a lot to love about the college.
How long have you been rowing and what got you interested in rowing?
Growing up in Tennessee, I had no exposure to rowing programs aside from the rare movie which features it prominently. I thought it was something different that I could do, and I wanted to be a part of a team. I guess you could say I've been interested in it since freshman year, then.
Have you won any academic or rowing awards recently?
Last year, I was a James O. Freedman Presidential Scholar, which is an award given to juniors who undertake research projects. I've continued that research and will be finishing with a thesis this year. As a result, I'll be named a John Zabriskie '61 Research Fellow for my work.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
In elementary school, I envisioned myself going pro in the NBA.
What other activities do you participate in on campus?
Mock trial society was really my biggest commitment outside of rowing. Beyond that, I've participated in DOC Trips as a trip leader, and during the year, I've gone on several outings with that organization. Beyond that, I work as a lab TA in the chem department
What are your future plans, if any.
Shortly after graduation, I'll be moving to New York City to work at Morgan Stanley.
